Where: Palmerston North City i-SITE Visitor Centre , The Square, Palmerston North

One of the most popular walks in the Ruahine Ranges, the The Rangiwahia track has recently been revamped. Some of the highlights of this walk include a stunning arched-wooden bridge, as well as a picturesque waterfall just before you reach the Rangiwahia Hut. Being high up on the Whanahuia Range, you'll experience breath-taking views from the hut. On a clear day you can see as far as Mt. Ruapehu and Mt. Taranaki, with the wider Manawatu and Rangitikei regions stretched out in front of you. There is plenty of bird life that can be seen or heard from the track, such as the Warbler, Tomtit, Wax Eye, Chaffinch, Yellow Hammer, Fantail, Black bird, Thrush, Shining Cuckoo & Kereru Wood Pigeon.

It is very important that you wear appropriate tramping footwear, bring warm clothing and take plenty of adequate drink and food. Make sure you pack suitable high energy snacks, such as biscuits, nuts, raisins, sweets, chocolate, scroggin and fruit.

Bookings are essential - no ticket sales on the day.
