Tauhara Retreat Centre - your home away from home for the weekend

Tauhara is a retreat and conference centre located in Acacia Bay, overlooking Lake Taupo in the centre of New Zealand's North Island.

In 1938, the Founders established a charitable trust in order to create a place for people to come together for community, learning, inspiration and personal growth, but it was not until the 1970s that the present site was developed, with the Centre buildings opening in 1977. With facilities for 60+ guests, Tauhara often hosts a wide range of group retreats, conferences, gatherings and educational seminars. It is also possible for people to stay as individual retreatants, taking time out for rest, recuperation and reflection. The kitchen is revered far and wide for the fresh, often organic and often vegetarian cuisine that is served to guests. There is also a meditation space, The Sanctuary, which is always open for individuals to take quiet time.

The staff at Tauhara do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. We welcome individuals, couples, families and groups to join us.

Do come and experience Tauhara for yourself.

Food at Tauhara

Tauhara staff take pride in offering healthy, nutritious meals that are prepared with love.

Tauhara's kitchen has a long history of offering fresh, often organic and vegetarian cuisine, with much of the fruit and vegetables grown on site in the Centre's own organic gardens, and across the road at Rainbow Gardens on Shakti Nilaya, a beautiful environment established by our generous-hearted neighbour, Tanya Hillerby. We are always happy to provide a range of menu options to suit you and your group. A full daily menu can be provided, including breakfast, lunch, dinner and morning and afternoon tea. Other options, including self catering, can be discussed with the Centre manager. Meals are generally served buffet style.

Vegetarian, vegan, wheat-free and other diet restrictions are catered for if the request is made in advance. There is a small surcharge for wheat-free diets, to allow for alternative ingredients.
