First performed in 1995 and depicting a Britain scarred by Margaret Thatcher, Sir David Hare’s Skylight still speaks urgently in 2016. The recent London revival, which pitched Carey Mulligan as the maths teacher against Bill Nighy as the restaurateur, was a sellout, with The Daily Telegraph hailing it as “a thrilling modern classic” and theatre critic Michael Billington writing that it “hits you straight between the eyes with its mixture of private pain and public rage at our profoundly polarised society”. Apropos, audiences attending the London revival routinely applauded when Mulligan’s character gave a speech in defense of social workers. Also a hot ticket on Broadway in 2015, we are delighted to present a reading of this masterwork, presented in association with Silo Theatre and directed by Sophie Roberts.
