Camera Obscura - The Low Down presented by Diane Stoppard.

Accomplished photographer Diane Stoppard will present an illustrated talk about the fascinating topic of camera obscura, its background through history, art and the Timatatanga Hou sculpture project to be built in Whangarei Town Basin.

Diane has a long history with camera obscura: 19 years ago she was awarded a scholarship to travel the World researching the use of pinhole photography in commercial and art photography. On completion of her travels, Diane curated the nationally touring exhibition ‘The World Through a Pinhole’ in collaboration with Ellie Smith. As part of this project Diane and Ellie built a camera obscura at Te Papa and produced an award-winning catalogue.

Diane has continued her passion with the camera obscura with the plan to build a large steel sculpture on the Whangarei river bank, within which is a camera obscura that will be sited to look at Te Matau a Pohe Bridge. This project is a collaboration between architect Felicity Christian, sculptor Trish Clarke and Diane.

Registration essential - limited spaces.
