This Saturday! Superfine blues & calypso rent party for dancers, drinkers and bohemians of all stripes at the eminently hard-case Grey Lynn Ballroom - aka the private function room above the Grey Lynn RSC.

Featuring the cult ramshackle primitivist blues outfit Tom Rodwell & Storehouse - expect salacious lyrics, twisted guitar activity, and amazing percussion - this gig is designed to elicit boogie from even the hardest soul.

Described as “Sheffield’s answer to Lightnin’ Hopkins,” by the NME, the singer-guitarist has appeared widely in the UK, Switzerland, Holland, New Zealand and the US since 2003, both solo and with his ever-changing band Storehouse. He’s opened for artists including Trinity Roots, Leon Russell, John Butler Trio, Charles Bradley, Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, Son of Dave, C.W. Stoneking, Otis Taylor and Derek Trucks - who remarked, “You don’t hear that anymore; beautiful tunes, beautiful groove!"

"By turns wild, angry, hypnotic and sensual, it’s as uncompromising as it is funky and some of the best live music I’ve seen,” remarked Blues in London.

"Stonkingly exciting!" - Simon Wilson, Metro.

"Always has the joint jumping," - Gary Steel, Metro.

As a session player, Rodwell has worked with acts including legendary New Zealand songwriter Don McGlashan (appearing throughout his critically acclaimed new Lucky Stars album) as well as American folk-roots artist Madame Pamita, LA-born-London-based psychedelic soul legend Art Terry and Danish experimental folk artist Parkbench.

Ample parking! Friendly staff & security! Public transport nearby! Mirror ball and fake palm tree!
