About Hawaiian Maiden:
Equal parts nostalgia and innovation, Hawaiian Maiden is a five-piece Surf-Rockabilly band that never turns down a pun or a cold one. With a solid line-up, a second E.P. on the way, and no singer to cause any dramas, this group of banter-driven mates brings the party to the Hawaiian shirt wearing sub-cultures of Christchurch.

Hawaiian Maiden can warm up the dance floor with smooth trumpet lines or knock out a heavier set drawing on individual member's experience in bands such as None Left Standing, Ill-Received, Suede Arcade and Lebowski.

Originally a solo project conceived by Jonno Wheeler, Hawaiian Maiden has since carved a surf-rock shaped hole within the Christchurch music scene. "I had a handful of these surf songs that i thought i should record," says Jonno. "So, at the end of 2014 I recorded the E.P. that would eventually become 'Good Hustle', playing most of the instruments myself."

After calling upon Guy Higginson to provide some trumpet and Dave Webber to add a couple basslines, the E.P. was officially released Sept 13, 2014. Local music reviewer, Michael Hollywood said "(Good Hustle) is a lovingly crafted piece of work that sounds like it was as much fun to make as it was to listen too-six quirky vibrato and reverb-drenched tunes, with eccentric oddball titles."

In early 2015, a live band was assembled to play a one-off E.P. release show. Jonno was joined on stage by Dave Webber(bass), John Steenhart(second Guitar), TJ Smart (drums) and the notorious Higgo wailing on the Trumpet.

After what meant to be a one-off performance, the offers for gigs kept coming and Hawaiian Maiden played regularly around Christchurch, including opening for The Feelers and reaching the finals of RDU Round Up band competition. By 2016, Dave had moved on and freshed face Jak Harris was bestowed with the coveted green Hawaiian shirt. The band have conntinued playing local shows, highlights including the Francaise Music Alliance Fest and supporting U.S. legends Reverend Horton Heat.

With a second E.P. brewing, the weather getting warmer, and the beer getting colder, you can expect Hawaiian Maiden to bring the riffs, the banter, and the limited-edition skivvies to your local luau or Hangi!
