For our final concert on Sunday afternoon, concert series join us at the museum for a recital by Royden Smith (Classical Guitar).

Having been brought up in a musical family, Royden grew a love for music at a young age. After initially learning the violin Royden switched to classical guitar at the age of 14 and has never looked back. After successfully auditioning at Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music in 2012, Royden moved to Wellington and began tuition under Dr. Jane Curry.

Currently, in his 4th year of study Royden has had numerous performance opportunities throughout Wellington in many varying environments as both a soloist and a chamber musician. His career highlights thus far include being invited to perform as the leader of the NZSM Guitar Quartet at the Victoria University Distinguished Alumni Awards (2015), successfully winning the Jack Richards Music Award (2016) and being a finalist at the inaugural Body/Harris Prize competition (2015).

Royden is motivated to push himself and learn as much as possible about the guitar, both as a performer and teacher. After completing his Bachelor of Music with Honours, Royden plans to further his studies in Europe towards a Masters degree.
