"A deft combination of Western art and traditional Maori music performed with great sensitivity and authority." Manawatu Standard, August 2016

Warren Warbrick : nga taonga pūoro
Virginia Warbrick : voice and shruti box

Spanning some 600 years, our intriguing story, told through music, begins with a tohunga discovering sounds emanating from a hole in the ground. Throughout the performance, It becomes apparent that the sounds are coming through a tunnel from Spain, from the opposite side of the world. Our story celebrates intertwined cultural and musical traditions - Māori music, Spanish 'early music' and new New Zealand art music - while depicting a change in environment, including the loss of the huia.

Music by Pepe Becker (new work, 'Ciento Ochenta'), Henry Purcell, Tomas Luis de Victoria and improvisations
Texts by poets Apirana Taylor, Leonel Alvarado and Pepe Becker
Artworks by Reweti Arapere and Virginia Warbrick
