Māori music, Spanish 'early music' and new New Zealand art music.

Central to TAHI80 is 'Ciento Ochenta', new work by Pepe Becker (NZ) including texts by poets Apirana Taylor (NZ) and Leonel Alvarado (NZ/Honduras). A work spanning some 600 years, it all begins with a tohunga discovering music emanating from a hole in the ground. Throughout the work, It becomes apparent that the sounds are coming from more than 12,000 kms away, from Spain, from the other side of the world. Join us for the world premiere performance!

The creation of TAHI80 would not be possible without generous support from the Earle Creativity Trust.

The concert will also include nga taonga pūoro improvisations and works by Henry Purcell, Edmund Rubbra and Graham Parsons (NZ), including accompanists Morva Croxson (piano) and Roy Tankersley (harpsichord).
