Taxation of the people has always been a source of money to the Crown or to the Government. Taxation Records indicate the social standing of your forbears.

This presentation explains the various taxation records from the 12th to the 20th centuries. When you are researching beyond parish registers, taxation records are one of the few records available to us to enable us to locate our ancestors.

Records such as lay subsidies, poll tax, hearth tax, window tax, and many others will be explained.
