This 10km track through Te Apiti – Manawatu Gorge is the longest of all the tracks and is spiritually and physically rewarding, and provides an opportunity to enjoy native bush, scenic views and wildlife only a short distance from Palmerston North. You’ll be walking through a unique landscape of steep greywacke ranges covered in towering trees and thick bush. You’ll see an interesting mix of native plants including tawa and podocarp, as well as many nikau palms. Along the route there are five viewpoints that allow you to tower above the trees and glimpse the beauty of the gorge from above. From the river, to the railway, the reserves, and Manawatu’s iconic wind farms, you will be able to see all Te Apiti has to offer. At the end of your walk, you’ll end up at the Bridge Cafe. Set amongst the trees, this cafe is a local favorite and does great coffee.

Please ensure that you wear appropriate walking footwear, bring warm clothing, and pack plenty of adequate drink and food.
