The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, directed by Robert Wiene in 1920, is a masterpiece of German expressionist cinema. The silent film features cubist/expressionist sets that set it apart from any other film, described by Roger Ebert as "a jagged landscape of sharp angles and tilted walls and windows, staircases climbing crazy diagonals, trees with spiky leaves, grass that looks like knives". The plot relays the story of Cesare, a somnambulist, and his master, the insane hypnotist Dr. Caligari, who sends Cesare forth to do his evil bidding. The film will be presented in the original tinted colour with new English inter-titles that retain the twisted style of the original titles.

The extraordinary images of the film are complemented by suitably eccentric music played live by the Orchestra of Moving Parts (Pamela Seccombe (cello) Peter Porteous (electric noise guitar) and Phil Davison (prepared piano).

Some scenes may frighten young children.
