Nearly 35 years after the 1982 record that helped launch Flying Nun Records and take the ‘Dunedin Sound’ around the world, The Chills play Nelson Arts Festival!

The Chills formed in Dunedin in 1980 and are fronted by the rare talent of Martin Phillipps. His knack for writing fantastic pop songs has given them chart hits in New Zealand and a cult following around the world. These include Pink Frost, I Love My Leather Jacket and Heavenly Pop Hit, to name just a few.

In 2015, they released their first full-length album in nearly two decades, Silver Bullets. The critically acclaimed album hailed the return of one of New Zealand’s most respected exports.

"The first album in 19 years from Martin Phillipps’s New Zealand-based pioneers of the ‘Dunedin Sound’ is a breathtaking return. It’s brilliant." - The Guardian

- Martin Phillipps: Guitar & Vocals
- James Dickson: Bass & Backing Vocals
- Todd Knudson: Drums & Backing Vocals
- Erica Scally: Violin & Backing Vocals
- Oli Wilson: Keyboards & Backing Vocals

Opening act: Nomad
Aasha Mallard, Will McGillivray and Cullen Kiesanowski formed Nomad at school in Christchurch and their differing musical tastes collide to shape their alt-pop/folk sound. They have been winning over unsuspecting audiences, show by show. They’ve opened for Fly My Pretties, played Homegrown, Lazy Sundays, Music in Parks, Queenstown Winterfestival, supported Salmonella Dub, Marlon Williams, Jackie Thomas, Benny Tipene, and now The Chills.
