The Glamaphones will mark 30 years of homosexual law reform with a season of performances in June and July.

"We will be performing a very special programme of music to celebrate the milestone moment in 1986," says Musical Director Rachel Hyde.

At the heart of the Glamaphones programme will be a new commission from renowned Wellington composer, Gareth Farr. The work is "a reminder of the hurt that was done; that helpless and desperate times are an integral part of any political struggle," Gareth explains. "However - it’s not all doom and gloom - the bottom line in this piece is that love conquers all."

The performances will also feature archival material from the Lesbian and Gay Archives of New Zealand (LAGANZ).

"These concerts will span a spectrum of emotions. Our songs will be a celebration, and also focus on the themes of hope and courage, looking back at the bravery of those who campaigned for the cause."

"Yet we do not forget that the struggle is ongoing. We will also perform music to acknowledge the discrimination that LGBTQI people continue to face around the world."

"St Andrews is very important to the Glamaphones and Wellington's rainbow community as a leader in the fight for equality."

The Glamaphones will then take the programme up to Paekakariki for a community performance the following day.

The Glamaphones will also be guests at events held at the New Zealand Parliament, the Pataka gallery in Porirua, and at a service at St Andrews on the Terrace.

The Glamaphones rehearse at St Andrews on Thursday evenings. Go to for more information.
