Bicycle Junction cordially invites you to join us on 5th November 2016 to celebrate the history of the bicycle and a bygone era when lady and gentlemen riders ruled the roads and alleyways.

The Need for Tweed ride is a chance to celebrate the inherent style and grace of one of the most enduring of humankind’s inventions in the fashion it was intended to be celebrated. We take a step back in time to the 19th and early 20th Century when tweed suits and leather brogues were high leisurely fashion.

Cycling makes getting places about the journey rather than the destination, but for this event, we've tried to make those special too! The ride will depart from Shelly Bay at 1pm, heading south. We will stop 5km around the bay at Cog Park near Greta Point for afternoon tea and entertainment. The ride then continues north for about 3km around the beautiful Wellington bays to Oriental Bay before finishing at the Rogue and Vagabond lawn on Garrett Street for entertainment, refreshments and the prizegiving.

As with previous years, we will also celebrate the best-dressed woman and best-dressed man along with our favorite couple, best moustache and best bicycle.

This year we have added a new competition to the schedule - The Club Sandwich Extravaganza! This competition will test your sandwich making skills. If you fancy yourself a master in the art of the humble club sandwich then please enter a platter of your best. You must bring enough for our skilled panel of six judges to taste. Please remember this is a tea party and not a school lunch. Only club sandwiches served on the appropriate crockery will be accepted. Please, no Tupperware - it wouldn't be right.

Join us on November 5th in your best earthen coloured vintage fabrics to partake in a bit of light-hearted fun. While we readily admit to a vintage bias, no-one will be turned away. The right attitude is the only prerequisite.
