School children and the public will be able to see and read the results of the annual Poetry Project initiative when a selection of poems written around the theme of ‘Our Place our Maunga’ by students of Birkenhead Primary and Birkdale Intermediate go on display at Northart’s Studio Space. Co-ordinated by the Michael King Writers’ Centre, the 2016 programme took 23 poetry and creative writing workshops to students at eight schools around Auckland. The children produced their final poems on illustrated posters, which will make a distinctive display on the walls of the gallery’s community room. The Poetry Project workshops are funded by Creative New Zealand and Auckland Council’s Regional Arts and Culture Communities programme.
