Wellington’s vibrant waterfront precinct comes alive with mid-winter carnival fun as the Resene Cool Colour Ice Rink & Slide returns for the second year running to get the capital city skating away the mid-winter blues from Saturday.

With over 20,000 people expected, the four week programme of wintery festivities offers something for everyone - providing inner city revellry for all ages, including the exhilarating 35-metre-long double-laned ice slide. The fully covered ice rink provides stunning views straight out into the bay, a visual treat for all weather skating.

Themed weekends offer competitions, face painting, fun and excitement across the Resene Cool Colour Ice Rink season. The Children’s Garden Fundraiser (2 - 3 July), is a lively kids party complete with a flower themed dress up competition, face painter and a flurry of ice fairies.

Every $1 raised goes towards the Children’s Garden Fund at the Wellington Botanic Gardens, a living classroom for children to learn about plants that provide food and medicine. As a member of the Sustainable Business Network member, Paradice Ice Skating are committed to sustainability and the environment and giving back to communities they bring their rinks to.

The next up is the Ice Age Collison Course Party (9 - 10 July). Come dressed up in space themed costumes to celebrate the release of the movie in cinemas 7 July. There will be best dressed competitions, Ice Age face painting and a mad cap acorn treasure hunt.

When the day turns to night it’s time for the adults to hit the ice! Every Tuesday is Student Skate Nights with discounted tickets, great music and giveaways offering students a cool break from study. Friday Night DJs, will be spinning tunes from 7 -10pm, getting the party started for the weekend ahead. The festivities continue with the Americana Party on July 4th celebrating Independence Day with some boot scootin’ line dancin’ on the ice.

An avalanche of activities is also on offer for the school holidays! The Ice Carnival Weekend (16 – 17 July) is a party not be missed - complete with snow sculpting competitions, crazy characters and great prizes for the most imaginative creations. For the Winter Wonderland (23 – 24 July) get wrapped up warm, and take to the ice with Elsa from Frozen. The Best of the Rink Finale (30 - 31 July) is the final weekend of the Ice Rink, when face painters and ice fairies abound for the final blast.

Off the ice and around the rink the precinct embraces winter with four pop up container shops full of crafts and winter woollies, five food trucks, and not to mention the great bars and restaurants all around the waterfront, to warm the bellies before and after getting your skates on.
