Macular Degeneration NZ is hosting 'The Treatment Revolution' event, where renowned British Ophthalmologist, Professor Alan Bird, will discuss one of the greatest advances in medicine in the past decade. The most aggressive form of macular degeneration has been transformed from a relentlessly progressive, disabling disease to one which can be tamed with medication.

Macular Degeneration is the most common cause of blindness in people over 50 years of age in New Zealand. 1 in 7 people will get this chronic eye disease. As New Zealand's population ages, eye health and quality of life for older people will increasingly become critical issues.

Professor Bird is internationally recognized as one of the pioneers of Medical Retina and is a Professor and Consultant at the Institute of Ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
