Join historian and story-teller Dave Veart and explore the tunnels and underground rooms, examine the rare disappearing gun and learn about the men and women who served and worked on Maungauika - North Head.

For thousands of years, Maungauika - North Head has stood sentry to the entrance of Auckland Harbour. During that time it was hardened and fortified by Maori, grazed by early European farmers and then in 1885 was turned into New Zealand’s most complex fort.

It is a place with many stories to tell of our history: the land's volcanic origins, the arrival of the first waka from Hawaiki, fear of Russian attack, and two World Wars.

The tour is strictly limited, to RSVP email jbeer@doc.govt.nz.

Bring a torch, wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. We will meet at 11 am in the Upper Carpark, Maungauika/North Head Historic Reserve.

This event is part of Conservation Week 2016.
