Wellington’s 'Tunes of I' and Dunedin’s 'Summer Thieves' are proud to announce a tour together, fresh from their opening performances for Australia’s Sticky Fingers. The tour - only the second time these acts have played together - will visit Auckland (presented by Madcap), Raglan and Tunes of I’s hometown of Wellington over three nights in May.

With complementary styles and a shared foundation of influences, the combination of these bands promises to bring fans together. While dub, roots and old school reggae present obvious inspiration in both acts, they differ in terms of the added flavours they bring to the table. Summer Thieves are well known for their use of hiphop and incorporation of contemporary sampling of the likes of Kendrick Lamar etc, while Jazz School alumni Tunes of I show their chops with hearty horn solos and hints of darker dub verging on metal. Both bands are doing things a little bit differently from their predecessors in the NZ dub/roots scene.

Summer Thieves’ dive into 2016 has been relentless. Main stage performances at R&A and R&V were followed by a successful tour with Hamilton Hip Hop Hero Raiza Biza touring their single ‘Don’t Matter’. A Performance at SoundSplash festival (Raglan) finalised an excellent summer tour for the quartet. Performances with Six60 and Sticky Fingers have kick-started 2016 with a solid base for their move to Auckland. Their debut release is expected in June 2016

After the release of their debut album Restless in November 2015, it’s safe to say Tunes of I have not had a chance to sit still. Performing at major festivals R&V and Soundsplash, they toured the country from top to bottom over more than twenty-five shows accumulating with their performance at Hokitika Wild Foods Festival alongside headliners The Black Seeds; a poignant moment for the band, whose album was produced by frontman Barnaby Weir. The band then went on to open for Sticky Fingers at a sold-out Shed 6. This upcoming tour with Summer Thieves culminates with the Wellington show as a celebration of sorts, marking Tunes of I’s five year anniversary since the band began.
