Who says women become invisible at 60? Wellington photographer and author Jenny O’Connor’s powerful portraits of 60 women in their 60th year, allow a glimpse into the personal experience of being a woman in her '60s in today’s world.

As Jenny headed towards her own 60th birthday in February 2012 she began to sense this milestone was different. A time of transition. More certain in some ways, but less certain in others. She decided to explore these questions by talking to and photographing women who were 60. The first portrait was taken in March 2012 and the most recent in July 2016.

Through the photographs and the words written by the women themselves you may feel a sense of connection, be moved, surprised, curious, perhaps challenged; or simply enjoy the images of some of a generation of women who played a part in changing the world.
