At the height of the Cold War and in the face of official sanctions, Hawke’s Bay farmer Bill Youren worked to promote world peace by campaigning for greater understanding of communist China. He found in the beauty and subtlety of Chinese art one of the most effective counters to anti-Chinese propaganda.

In ‘Visions of Peace’ John Chrisstoffels, of the University of Canterbury Ilam School of Fine Arts, employs Youren’s own film footage shot in Mao's China to tell his remarkable story.

Production and screenplay by Richard Bullen, John Chrisstoffels, Paul Millar (University of Canterbury) and James Beattie (University of Waikato). Music by Mark Menzies (University of Canterbury).
