“How sweet the moonlight sleeps upon this bank. Here will we sit and let the sound of music creep in our ears.”

So begins Vaughan Williams’ heady ‘Serenade to Music’, a famously beautiful setting of Shakespeare’s glorious words. And it’s this piece that serves as our commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death, as well as headlining Viva Voce’s opening concert for 2016.

Other choral gems on the same theme – from the likes of Lassus, Tomkins, Handel, Schubert, Elgar, Distler, Gershwin and the Doobie Brothers – will help to remind us why we perform, listen to and adore this most captivating of art forms.

Featuring Auckland Chamber Choir, Viva Voce
Conducted by John Rosser
Guest accompanist, David Kelly
