Auckland’s most versatile choir Viva Voce reveals yet another side to their choral talent.

In a subtle (but not unprecedented) shift from their more usual classically styled performances, VV devotes an entire programme to the genre of jazz. And, what’s more, they’re sharing the stage with some very special guests – Aussie quartet The Idea of North.

Specialising in vocal jazz, Sally, Naomi, Nick and Andrew have been singing together professionally as The Idea of North for more than 20 years, with a number of award-winning recordings to their name. But you really have to see this group live to fully appreciate their ability to connect with and entertain an audience. Musical prowess, cohesion, personality and humour – these guys have got it all!

With both groups performing separately and also combining, the song list includes Gershwin’s ‘Embraceable you’, Charlie Chaplin’s ‘Smile’, Ellington’s ‘It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing’, along with Doris Day’s ‘Secret love’. And among others, there’ll be jazz versions of hits by Sting and Stevie Wonder – with perhaps even a Christmas song or two thrown in.

Don’t miss this special end-of-year treat – in particular, the rare opportunity to be wowed and entertained by guest artists, The Idea of North. With only one performance, this show could easily sell out!
