Cimarosa - Il ritorno di Don Calendrino: Overture
Mozart - Flute Concerto No. 2 in D Major
Haydn - Symphony No. 45 in F-Sharp Minor, "Farewell"

Flute soloist: Uwe Grodd
Conductor: Elizabeth Lau

Proceeds from this concert will be donated to the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre

For its first concert in 2016 Auckland chamber orchestra Wairua Sinfonietta presents The Classics featuring works by composers from the Classical era: Cimarosa, Mozart and Haydn, on April 23 in Remuera and April 24 on Waiheke Island.

Wairua Sinfonietta welcomes the return of Naxos recording artist, conductor, editor and Flute Professor Uwe Grodd as soloist in Mozart’s timeless Flute Concerto No. 2 in D Major.

Opening the concert is the lively overture to Il ritorno di Don Calandrino (“The Return of Don Calandrino”), by Italian composer Cimarosa.

Haydn’s celebrated Symphony No. 45 in f-sharp minor “Farewell”, perhaps most famously known for the slow disassembling of players in the last Adagio at its first performance in 1772, rounds off the programme.

For the first time Wairua Sinfonietta will be performing on Waiheke Island. “We are excited to be bringing the orchestra and more classical music to the locals on Waiheke Island,” says Elizabeth Lau, Music Director. “And what better way to start this new journey with Uwe Grodd, our soloist and also the orchestra’s Artistic Advisor.”

Wairua Sinfonietta is proud to support the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre by donating its proceeds from this concert. The Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre was established in 2004 to provide music therapy services to children and adolescents with special needs. The Centre also provides group sessions for preschoolers and 15 outreach programmes across Auckland. As the only centre in New Zealand currently offering music therapy, the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre has been able to help and permanently change the lives of hundreds of young people. Proceeds from previous concerts have been donated to charities including The Hearing House and Heart Kids New Zealand.
