Northart will be abuzz on White Night - Auckland Arts Festival’s one-night arts extravaganza - celebrating four exhibition openings and two diverse music performances.

Opening that evening is Faka Fo`ou (New Life), a series of three separate shows by six artists, which explore aspects of contemporary Tongan culture through film making, photography, painting and tapa. In Falevai Flava (First Glimpse) tapa artists Tui Emma Gillies and Sulieti Fieme’a Burrows show their exquisite ngatu, kupesi and other small works. In Two Phazed, Emily Mafile'o and Tevita Latu explore their 'perfection of reality' through a collaboration of photography and mixed media painting. And direct from the Nuku’alofa Film Festival, Digital Fananga features two short films by Vea Mafile'o and Jeremiah Tauamiti based on Pasifika myths, legends and beliefs.

And also opening on White Night is In-Stock, a rare opportunity to see recent and not so recent work by six of the North Shore’s most accomplished artists – Robert Ellis, Ross Ritchie, Karl Amundsen, John Oxborough, Frank van Schaik and Garry Currin – all under one roof.

Entertainment will be provided in the early evening by Birkenhead College Jazz Band with their unique mix of jazz, blues and funk, and at around 9pm, courtesy of the Auckland Arts Festival, there will be a stunning performance by the legendary new wave Korean music group, Noreum Machi, in the square outside the gallery.

Come along to enjoy a very special evening of music, art, culture and food!
