Born to Iraqi immigrants, singer/songwriter Yasamin didn’t gather up the courage to pursue her musical dream until later in her life. This would mean leaving behind a full-time career as a scientist to pursue music.

Yasamin first introduced her music in 2013 with her EP “Chasing Melodies” and had her music featured on C4, TVNZ’s Good Morning, 95bFM and TheAudience.co.nz Top 10 Chart Show. Yasamin has drawn comparisons to female musicians such as Corinne Bailey Rae and Ingrid Michaelson and sights her love for lyrics as what drew her to music initially.

The bulk of 2016 was spent writing and recording the debut full-length album, due for early 2017 release, and planning and filming three music videos to support the album’s singles.

Her only show for 2016, will bring together music and poetry (Mohamed Hassan from Waxed Poetic Revival) and celebrate the release of the music video for her second single “Home”, which was filmed in a single continuous shot and features a cast of 8 including children and animals!

Yasamin will be joined by a 4 piece band and will also perform acoustically on guitar and ukulele.

Refusing to be pigeon-holed, Yasamin also writes a blog about the creative process and the resistance and self-doubt that kept her from pursuing her musical dream. She identifies it as the same resistance crippling so many of us from taking action towards the things we want.
