Celebrating 150 Years of Waipukurau 1867 - 2017.

Waipukurau History is pretty unique in New Zealand. It was established as a "model village" a utopian community concept of Henry Robert Russell, who purchased part of the Waipukurau Block in 1853. He became very influential and was being referred to as "Lord Henry". No one who came to Waipukurau in the 1860s to live could be independent of Henry Russell.

Portrait of Henry Russell by Gottfried Lindauer is part of the display loaned from Russell's descendant in New Zealand.
