The Latin America and Spain Film Festival (LASFF) returns to Wellington for its 16th edition!

Aotearoa New Zealand is about to embrace Hispanic culture once again, with the 16th edition of the Latin America and Spain Film Festival.

This free event will run from 21st to 29th October. The support of local communities, including various Latin American & Spanish groups, has been significant in bringing about this growth.

LASFF is an annual non-profit cultural event presented and organized by the Embassies of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico and Spain in New Zealand; and by the Embassies of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, in Australia.

An especially selected collection of 11 films in a wide range of categories will be presented, with the main goal being to bring New Zealand’s audience closer to the history, culture and social developments of Latin America and Spain, through the work of each country’s fascinating local film industry. Here is the programme:

21st October:
11am: "Take Me Out" (Venezuela) - Comedy/Drama - (2013) - 115min
2pm: "Alba" (Ecuador) - Drama - (2016) - 94 min
4pm: "No Filter" (Chile) - Comedy - (2016) - 100min

22nd October

2pm: "Promenade Women" (Uruguay) - Comedy - (2013) - 93min
4pm: "Margaritha, That Sweet Chaos" (Peru) - Comedy - (2016) - 99min

28th October

2pm: "Decent People" (Colombia) - Drama - (2015) - 86min
4pm: "The Story of Me" (Brazil) - Drama - (2009) - 110min

29th October
11am: "Cuba Libre" (Cuba) - Historical Drama - (2015) - 120min
2pm: "Miguel and William" (Spain) - Comedy - (2007) - 101min

LASFF’s organizing committee invites everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand to enjoy this opportunity and to take a step towards Latin America and Spain. We are confident that the next step could hopefully be visiting one or more of our group of nations, united by language, but with very diverse and rich cultures.
