Unlock the power of Shakespearean performance with British Director Ben Naylor through rigorous textual and dramatic analysis, while drawing on improvisation and play to liberate the body and imagination. You will explore the psycho-dramatic structures the playwright embeds in his form and language, and the intimate and truthful relationship between actor and audience.

Ben Naylor is director of Pop-up Globe’s 2017 production of Othello and was director of the 2016 season of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. He is also a teacher at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, and has extensive directing experience around the world. Ben has taught acting at Shakespeare's Globe, the Shakespeare Centre, the Method Studio, LAMDA, ASAD, Cambridge University, Queen Mary and Westfield, Kingston University, Birkbeck College, at Berlin’s Forum fur Filmschauspiel, and in the US, New Zealand, Israel and Greece; he also currently teaches for Florida State University’s Theatre Academy London.

Spaces are limited to 12 actors who are either training or have graduated from a tertiary level drama school or have working experience in the performing arts industry.

All participants will be contacted and asked to prepare a scene from a Shakespearean play written after 1595 before attending the masterclass.
