A car accident took the life of a promising 11yr old dancer Alana on Xmas Eve 1989 after she performed to 1,500 in Wellington. This prompted other dancers to fund-raise for a biennial dance event in Alana’s name ‘Alana Haines Australasian Awards’ & today it is the most prestigious & largest Australasian event of its kind & supported by the dance community around the world.

560 talented contestants 11 - 18 yrs from throughout Australasia compete for awards totalling $400,000 including cash, top international scholarships allocated to Finalists on Monday evening by an international jury from London, Germany, Canada & Australia.

Hosted by Sir Jon Trimmer – the Grand Finals Monday evening will include guest performers’ from Queensland, Melbourne City Ballet, New York, Royal Ballet School London & Royal New Zealand Ballet.

This year’s competitors are our future stars. 2015 Supreme Finalists are now in ballet companies or international schools throughout the world while previous year’s winners represent NZ & Australia as principals in leading companies such as Royal Danish Ballet & Paris Opera Ballet.
