Enjoy a satirical outdoor performance that reimagines Wellington and mainlines you into the city's heart. Created by performance mavericks Binge Culture, Ancient Shrines is an immersive audio experience that you participate in via smartphone technology.

The experience starts off at BATS Theatre and then moves to Waitangi Park and nearby surrounds, where you'll enjoy a tour experience like no other. If you're a Wellingtonian, then you will be able to take a completely fresh look at your own city; if you're a visitor then we offer you an opportunity to enjoy some alternative truths about our history and customs.

The show was a hit at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with reviewers describing it as 'Trip Advisor meets Pokemon Go' and audiences coming back for repeat visits.

As they say, real travellers belong everywhere... so, come along and discover hidden gems, stumble into fragile cultural ceremonies and laugh with Authentic Locals. Armed with the knowledge of an expert guide and entry-level smartphone technology, you'll feel instantly at home – wherever your journey takes you. Refuse to tourist. Take the outsider's insider's guide that proves you deserve to belong.

You will get to choose your own journey via our smartphone app’s pick-a-path system. It's a fun experience to do alongside friends and then compare notes afterwards. We will lend you a mobile device and headphones, and be on hand to guide you through the experience. Ancient Shrines and Half Truths is an exciting performance experience, designed for an agile and aware global audience. Yes, that does sound like you!
