Where: Auckland Town Hall - Great Hall, 303 Queen St, CBD, Auckland

Conductor: Michal Nesterowicz
Percussion Eric Renick

- Smetana: Vltava (Die Moldau)
- Rautavaara: Incantations (Concerto for percussion and orchestra)
- Dvořak: Symphony No.9, ‘From the New World’

APO Principal Percussionist, Eric Renick will be in the spotlight as he takes on Rautavaara's spellbinding percussion concerto. The music, inspired by tales of shamans weaving their enchantments, features marimba, vibraphone and an exciting array of other percussion instruments.

And then, two musical postcards. Smetana follows the longest river in the Czech Republic, from its sources in the forest, through choppy rapids, until it flows broadly and majestically into the Elbe.

His fellow Czech, Dvořak, was living in New York when he wrote his ever-popular symphonic letter home – an evocation of the open skies, the bustling cities, the endless plains and the limitless promise of America.

Pre-concert Talk by Amber Read at 6:45 pm.

Please note: This programme differs slightly from previously advertised.
