The Auckland Piano Trio will be performing for the Waikanae Music Society on Sunday 3 September. This group was formed in 2015 by three outstanding young musicians based in Auckland. However, two of the players have special connections with the Wellington region. Violinist James Jin and pianist Xing Wang have both studied at the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington and both have won the school’s prestigious Concerto Competition, James Jin in 2014 and Xing Wang in 2015.

James is also of special interest to the Waikanae Music Society as a past recipient of an award from the Society’s Charitable Trust for Young Musicians. He now holds the post of Associate Principal Second Violin with the Auckland Philharmonia. Also holding a Principal position with the Auckland Philharmonia is the brilliant cellist James sang-oh Yoo who studied in Australia and Germany, with a wealth of competition successes and performances in both countries.

The trio are touring the country for Chamber Music New Zealand and will be performing works by Mozart, Kodaly and Arensky in Waikanae. The Mozart trio is a popular work, light-hearted and filled with glorious melodies. In contrast, the Kodaly Duo is filled with Hungarian folk song, in turns passionate, playful and rhapsodic. The second half of the concert is devoted to the lush Russian romanticism of Anton Arensky who was inspired by his mentor and friend Tchaikovsky.

Door sales will be available or tickets can be purchased at Waikanae New World, Moby Dickens Books in Paraparaumu Beach or at Lush Design Gallery in Raumati.
