The Tainui Historical Society presents the inaugural Bone Carving Workshop with special guest Steve Myhre. Steve is a carver, teacher and author of the groundbreaking book “Bone Carving – a skill base of techniques and concepts”. Steve Myhre has carved in bone and stone since the 1970s and exhibited throughout NZ as well as internationally.

This workshop is tailored for existing bone carvers who want to develop their skills and learn new techniques.

Steve will give a historical overview of bone carving, show items in his collection and work alongside you in making bone pieces. His insights into design, both traditional and contemporary, will stimulate new ideas and works.

As well as demonstrating the use of electric tools, Steve will share his expertise in hand tooling, whipping and lashing.

You will need to bring your own carving equipment and bone, though a limited supply of both will be made available by the organisers.

The workshop will be held at the Mokau Hall which is opposite the Mokau Museum.
