The Top of the South Film Festival presents the World Premiere of “Bowie” - an independent feature drama shot on location in Nelson that follows a young woman’s experience navigating the frustrations and challenges of motherhood and adolescence.

A unique and often humorous perspective of a mother/daughter relationship through the eyes of Lexi’s autistic teenage daughter, Bowie.

3 years in the making, “Bowie” was written and co-directed by Nelson native and Nayland graduate Amanda Phillips. Writer and producer of 3 films, “Bowie” was Amanda’s second film and completely self-funded with a second mortgage on her Auckland home.

Top of the South Film Production Society Vice President Doug Brooks heard about the production in 2013 and offered his services, putting together an amazing local Nelson/Tasman cast and crew, plus acting in the film himself.

Over 60 local actors and crew were involved in the film’s making. This film is a beautiful portrayal of a young mother dealing with important challenges while raising a teenage daughter. Bowie recently screened at the 2017 Cannes Film Market. T

he film’s writer and co-directors and principal actors will be in Nelson to walk the Red Carpet. It’s not to be missed so get your tickets early at:
