Kiwi boys are taught to be fearless, they are taught to be confident, they are taught to keep their emotions to themselves, be strong, and never ever be afraid. Kiwi men are like rocks and rocks never crack.

But rocks do crack and men are afraid. Yet “man up” seems to be a common answer when someone cries out for help but that answer isn’t helping anyone. It's creating years and years of damage which is now spiralling out of control.

We take you on a journey into the inner monologues of men and women dealing with the mask of masculinity. Men's fear of showing vulnerability, weakness, and their emotions and the effect it has on their relationships, family and themselves.

The Acting Collective was founded in 2015, since then we have had two successful productions from Jane Austen beloved novels. Firstly with our tour of Jon Jory's adaption of Pride and Prejudice performed in three different locations, Howick Historical Village, The Pumphouse Theatre and The Vic in 2016. Then Persuasion adapted by local screen writer Tanya Wheeler performed at The Pumphouse Theatre, earlier this year.

Our third production is Boy Afraid written and performed by The Acting Collective. It is a new direction for us, and something very different from our first two shows.
