Want to help native birds thrive in your backyard?

Rats, stoats and possums kill millions of native birds every year and have pushed some species to the brink of extinction. As a community, we can work together to protect and nurture our amazing and unique wildlife and keep native birds alive and singing in Greymouth.

Join local Department of Conservation Rangers and Tai Poutini Polytechnic staff for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to build a rat/stoat trap and start ridding your backyard of animal pests.

The workshop will include materials, tools and help to build a DOC150 trap box plus instructions on setting your trap safely. Material will also be available to make monitoring tunnels for those who prefer not to build a trap. The trap or tunnel you make will be yours to take home.

Pre-event Sign-up by 12 October is essential so we can ensure materials - spaces are limited! To sign up, please email greymouth@doc.govt.nz or call 03 768 0427.

Traps are limited to one per household. A gold coin donation for the West Coast Penguin Trust is appreciated.

This event is part of Conservation Week 2017. Brought to you by generous donations from International Panel & Lumber (West Coast) Ltd and Griffen & Smith Mega Mitre 10.
