Blues musician Bullfrog Rata has been making a splash in many a muddy pond up and down the country for some time now. Of his solo brand of earthy primal vocals and finger style guitar Bullfrog says:

"I do all sorts of things depending on how I feel and what vibe I get from the crowd at the time, but Blues is definitely the glue that holds the gumbo together!"

From Bullfrog's NZ Music Commission biography:
"He may not have sold his soul to the devil, and his accent may be more Manawatu than Mississippi, but Bullfrog Rata is a bluesman heart and soul. Starting out in the late eighties as a busker on the streets of towns throughout New Zealand because, as he recounts, “no-one wanted to play with me”. He is now one of New Zealand’s premier blues artist who has notched up an impressive list of support slot credits which include, among others, Tina Turner, Jethro Tull, Taj Mahal, Charley Pride, Junior Wells and Canned Heat.

He has played for shoppers on the streets of Wairoa and for diplomats on the top floor of New Zealand House in London. He has played for gang members in Taumaranui and been helicoptered to private parties on Waiheke Island.

As a powerhouse solo performer, your cares and worries will disappear as the beat, the sound, the music, the movement, the voice, all conspire in one riveting package to take you to another place, somewhere with the wind at your face and the entire world at your feet."

Entry is free to this regular concert series which is always held on the last Sunday of the month. A gold coin koha is appreciated to support future events. February's concert saw 150 people enjoying the Rodger Fox quintet, so being seated by 1:50pm for this free event is recommended.

Be sure to mark your calendar on Sunday, April 30 as NZ's premier early music vocal group 'Baroque Voices' enchant you at Te Takere's next concert.
