Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

Tutor: Kate McLean.

Learn how to print small scale images into clay to make tiny artworks that become wearable jewellery such as brooches. Art materials included.

Bring your own drawings or pictures and your imagination. You will learn how to transform your art into small scale ceramic jewellery. Each artwork and piece of jewellery will be unique to you.

On the first Saturday (6 hours) you will use white clay to shape your pieces ready for bisque firing. During this session, tutor Kate will talk about the properties of clay, plaster mould making, elements of good design, various methods of transferring images to clay and how to fabricate a finished wearable brooch.

On the second day (3 hours), you will smooth rough edges on your bisque fired piece, apply transfers of your own design or Japanese tissue transfers (provided), and prepare the pieces for their final firing.

Once the final firing is completed, the finished pieces will be available for collection from the office. Kate will discuss the details of this with you.

When you enrol, we will send a list of what to bring e.g. a rolling pin, small images or own drawings, cookie cutters, textures such as lace, leaves etc.

Our mission is to provide quality affordable and accessible lifelong learning opportunities for our community.
