The Grammy Nominated saxophonist Jay Rodriguez is the quintessential reed player and composer.

"He could be breathy and insinuate on a ballad, brawny and extroverted in an uptempo"- John Pareles NY Times

Jay is has been one of the most important artists in the tapestry of NYC's music scene having played with artist ranging from Latin Icons like Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Miles Davis, Prince, Guru's Jazzmatazz, Joe Lovano , Ingrid Jenson, Roy Hargrove, Fred Wesley, Chucho Valdez,Gary Bartz, The Wu Tang Klan, Jonathan Crayford, Barney Mcall, Jason Miles, the Gil Evans, Jeff Tain Watts, and the Mingus Big Band to Elvis Costello.

He is a cofounding member the heavily influential trail blazing band The Groove Collective.

Jay will lead his debut in Auckland at the CJC featuring new works from his soon to be released Solo record "Your Sound " recorded Live at Dizzy's At Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC.

His music covers the deep range of his experience as a jazz veteran and studio musician hailing from NYC. The concept for this evenings performance will evoke and speak to the deeply soulful and hard swinging. The spirit of all great music of the world will be felt. You will be moved. It shall be a tone poem of dreams where the voices of Africa meet Mahler and Stravinsky.

For this concert, he'll be joined by long-time friend and collaborator Jonathan Crayford, along with Mostyn Cole and Ron Samsom.

"Married to the song while sleeping with the groove, his sound sings of commitment to an ideal- it is spontaneity, culturally untethered and unpretentious, the excitement of far flung love at all costs. It is perfectionism kissed by chaos" - Michael Gelfand
