Want to get some exercise but not interested in those grueling instructed fitness classes? Love electronic dance music & hits from all decades? It's your lucky day!

Come and Dance Yourself Happy and let the dance tunes of '80s, '90s, '00s & beyond work up a sweat while de-stressing and replenishing the endorphins.

Free entry and no age limit, so drag the whole family along if you want – or have an hour all to yourself! There's no DJ, no instructor or choreography – just freeform leg-shaking, side-stepping, body-popping, running man, robot, old-school, or whatever your style may be. Strictly no alcohol or drugs.

Venue:
All Saints’ Community Centre at 30 Cook Street, Howick, Auckland (the same building and space where 'Classy Crafts' craft market is on Saturdays). Entry opposite to Subway across the street.

Who's doing this and why?
I'm Mari, an ex-deejay, and although no longer deejaying I want to keep spreading some of that contagious good mood and positivity you get from music and dancing. DYH is about dancing together instead of alone in our living rooms, and dancing to de-stress from whatever negative stuff we've got going on in our lives.

What kind of music mix can i expect?
It will be a mix of electronic dance music and hits from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and today; chart-toppers, floor-bangers, house, synthpop, techno, dance-pop, mashups, remixes, disco, some pop/rock, the occasional hint of Latin and much more. Fun fun fun!

There won't be any folk dance, slow-dance, ballroom, waltz, tango and that type of 'traditional' music. A lot of the music is non-stop but there are some fade outs and different tempos giving you a bit of breathing space.

Is this 'Dancing In the Dark'?
It won’t be pitch black but we will reduce the lighting to a minimum for a nice moody feel.

What should I wear & bring?
Wear anything you feel comfortable in, be it jeans or track pants, but no high heels, please. And bring a water bottle. Do not bring valuables.

Does it cost to get in?
No, this is absolutely free – thanks to the amazing generosity of Howick Local Board who is funding DYH in 2017! A big thanks also to Mecoss for all their help and continued support.

Can I bring my kids along?
Sure you can, but they have to be under your supervision at all times. Also worth noting is that a lot of care is taken to keep the music lyrics ‘clean', but there may be the odd unintentional missed word here or there or mature themes.
