Remember the rock'n'roll 50's and the swinging 60's? The mid-century style is so "now"! The architecture, the fashions, the furniture - so why not the music!
To celebrate the era the Mainland Big Band is featuring music from the 1950's and 1960's for its dance at the Cashmere Club on Saturday the 13th May. If you can remember how to rock'n'roll, or do 'The Twist' and danced to popular music in the dance halls of Christchurch (remember the Latimer, The Caledonian, La Mer, Town and About?) you will hear tunes that you will remember.
You are welcome to get in the mood and dig out your winkle-pickers, Brylcream, full petticoats and skirts, an elegant sheath dress or Mary Quant minis and hairdo's, and dress up for the occasion. There will be a prize for the best/most captivating outfit.
The Band, of course, has a very large repertoire of music for dancing and the programme will include all your usual favourites to waltz, quickstep, foxtrot, cha-cha or samba (and if you just excelled at the 'Kiwi shuffle' - that's ok!).
We look forward to seeing you there.
