The second concert for the year in the popular monthly Globe Theatre Sunday Matinee series features two former Palmerston North singers who are now resident in Wellington and regular performers there. Megan Corby, soprano and Craig Beardsworth met at Ross Intermediate (their parents also knew each other through church connections) before going on to Freyberg High School. Craig appeared in the Palmerston North Regent on Broadway last year as the lead male singer in the Wellington production of The Merry Widow.

Craig and Megan both initially learned singing in Palmerston North from Helen Caskie and then in Wellington from Emily Mair. Megan has graduated with a Masters degree in Music from Victoria University and Craig with 1st class Honours also from Victoria University. They have been singing for close to 30 years, and also share a love of teaching, laughing an awful lot, and enjoying the odd single malt. Such a combination makes for a perfect vocal team, and the concert is due to be repeated next month at St Andrews on the Terrace in Wellington.

The programme, which they have entitled ‘Smorgasbord’ or...’ Pardon, what theme?’ not surprisingly covers a range of styles including songs by Schubert, Grieg and Debussy, and music by Paul Bowles – An American filmmaker, writer and composer. There will also be a smattering of American arias and some lighter music including music from Spamalot, a musical comedy adapted from the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

They will be accompanied by dynamic Wellington pianist Catherine Norton.
