Built in 1910, Government House is the home of New Zealand's Governor-General and of the Royal family when they visit New Zealand.

Our free, fully guided tours begin in the Visitor Centre with displays and films and then explore the house including the ballroom, formal dining rooms and reception rooms.

The house contains many artworks, carved coats of arms and gifts from around the world. Where weather and mobility permit, we can look through the gardens including the remaining walls of the Mt View Asylum (1870-1910).

Tours are fully guided and free of charge. We have onsite parking and wheelchair access. Tours are in English. Sign language interpreters can be arranged dependent on notice and availability.

Places are limited. Booking is essential. Tour entry is through Hospital Road gate only. Bookings must be made in advance.

Groups of more than 6 (or smaller groups with specialist needs) can contact the Visitor Centre direct to arrange a group booking - bookings@govthouse.govt.nz 04 3820837.
