Discovery, food, games, music and culture abound at Mrs Woolly’s Great Glenorchy Getaway Day on Saturday, 20th May! With the theme "Scottish Heritage," Glenorchy is the place to be to celebrate the little bit of Scottish in all of us for a full day of fun.

Whats happening throughout the day?

10:00 am: Scotch Sale Table and market stalls open, delicious food is served:
- It's a season-ending spectacular: tables overflowing with fantastic bargains on close-out items from throughout the store-- everything on the Scotch Sale Tables will be marked ten dollars or less.
- Mrs Woolly's famous BBQ Brunch Buns and our special Scottish Shepherd's Pies are served-- until we run out. Come early.
- Come choose from healthy and "Rawmazing" baked goods, spreads, snacks and more. Sample and buy award-winning local cheeses & preserves, spray-free organic fruits & veg fresh from the North Island

The day is filled with exciting workshops and Scottish games:

11:00 am: Top Ten Tiny House Tips Workshop, with Queenstown tiny house guru Jim Nicol. Come see how easy life can be in a real, live tiny home that will be onsite.

12:00 pm: Children's Rock Painting Workshop, with local youth leader Kay Mason. Leave your children in good hands while Mom and/or Dad go take a fascinating guided tour of Camp Glenorchy.

1.00-3:00 pm: Highland Games for the Whole Family. Kids and adult contests of individual strength as well as creativity, teamwork and skill: join us for a gigantic tug of war, gumboot throwing for all ages, a hammer toss, caber tossing and "Hurl a Hairy Haggis". Prizes awarded throughout.

2:00 pm: Scottish Heritage and How to Find you're Roots Workshop, with Edith McKay of the NZ Society of Genealogists.

3.00 -4:00 pm: Pony Rides and Live Music.


Camp Glenorchy “sneak peek” tours at noon and 3 pm:
- Come explore the artist-built, nearly-complete Scheelite Campfire Shelter and the South Island’s largest solar array.
- Marvel at the beauty of the stone mosaic pathways and stepping stones just created by international stone mosaic artist and landscape designer Jeffrey Bale.
- Check out progress on the gathering, cooking and dining spaces under construction at the Commons Building.
- Discover how cosy the year-round cabins will be with a tour of the first fully-fitted guest room.

At 4:00 pm - It's time! Bagpipes, a toasty brazier, whisky-tasting and haggis!

- Mrs Woolly's Scottish celebrations kick off with bagpipes, Robert Burns epic poem Tam o'Shanter, and the traditional haggis piped march
- 20th May is World Whisky Day: adults are invited taste of New Zealand's finest vs. eponymous golden liquids of Scotland.

And to top off the day:
- At 5 pm the bar opens and haggis is served.
- At 5:45 pm, local historian Vince Jones shares the secrets of why Glenorchy NZ has so many Scottish names in it.
- At 6 pm, the movie "The Angel's Share" rounds off the day's Scottish theme:
Winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film festival. "After narrowly avoiding jail and becoming a new dad, Robbie vows to turn over a new leaf, and he and his mates hatch a daring (and entertaining) way out of their hopeless lives after an inspiring visit to a whisky distillery." - 105 minutes.
