Backbeat Comedy is a perfectly curated night of comedy that also delights and includes an unadvertised surprise or two. All at K Road's coolest venue.

Jamie Bowen:
Fresh off opening for Rhys Darby during his national tour, Bowen is one of NZ’s most celebrated stand ups, having performed in over a dozen NZ Int. Comedy Festivals. Critics call him “highly endearing and genuine” and he was nominated for NZ’s highest comedy honours The FRED in 2015.

Guy Montgomery:
Truly one of a kind and a former Billy T winner, here’s how the NZ Herald describes Montgomery; “He's one of just a handful of Kiwi comedians who really just have it - intoxicating, enveloping and absurdly entertaining”. His unmatched on-stage energy, absurd comedy stylings, and affable nature sum up to rare kiwi comedy treasure.

Nic Sampson:
A regular on TV screens from Jono and Ben, Funny Girls and Brokenwood Mysteries, Sampson is a masterful storyteller. Nominated for the prestigious FRED and the Billy T, Nic is also obviously very funny. No wonder gushed “the tightest half hour of stand-up I've seen this festival” last year.

Ruby Esther:
The winner of 2017’s RAW Comedy Quest competition, Ruby Esther is only just out of high school but already an adept performer. She also won 2016’s Word Up contest. The Spinoff says “I can already see her making huge comedy waves over the next few years.”

Tim Batt (MC):
Your perennial Backbeat host, Tim also hosts his own TV show Banter on TVNZ Duke and co-hosts The Worst Idea of All Time podcast with Guy Montgomery. He’s a two-time Billy T nominee and was even nominated for LA Laugh Factory’s Funniest Person in The World competition in 2016.
