Hear. Me. What is it like growing up as a girl in the patriarchal world of a new millennium? More and more people insist that women now have completely equal rights, that they have nothing to complain about, that they are afforded the same treatment as men in society. Is that true? If that is so, why are eating disorders, mental health disorders, rape, suicide, bullying, online assault, sexual and physical assault, femicides, sex trafficking and violent pornography at all time highs?

Why are girls and women still encouraged into silence regarding their abusive treatment by boys and men? Why are girls and women shamed for their body shape, their looks, their behaviour? Why are they blamed for the abuse they suffer at the hands of boys and men?

This piece of verbatim theatre utilises spoken word poetry, rap, and original music to allow girls to speak their truths, to verbalise their stories, to own their experiences and to have them aired publicly so that they do not get ignored. Confrontational, uncomfortable and sometimes harrowing this piece is also a celebration of our feminine spirit, our beauty, our resilience, our strength, our magnificence.

It's us offering to meet you face to face as ourselves, without having to put on a pleasing persona. This is our invitation to you to open up a new conversation. Warning: contains disturbing themes such as sexual assault, rape, violence, and strong language.

Performed by Youth.
