Discover behind-the-scenes secrets of Pop-up Globe with our most unique back-stage guided tour!
Our exclusive 80-minute backstage tour is for the adventurous, taking you high to the heavens - the attic above the stage - and down to hell, the trapdoor of the stage itself. Tour highlights include learning about sound effects used in Shakespeare's time, the chance to stand on the Pop-up Globe stage and behind-the-scenes access to where you can see some of the handmade props and costume pieces, and maybe even try on a hat or two! Our informative and friendly guides will share with you their extensive knowledge on this remarkable performance space.
Pop-up Globe Auckland is a full-scale working temporary replica of the second Globe Theatre originally built by Shakespeare and his company in 1614, and is the result of ground-breaking international academic research. With a steel frame ‘skinned’ in plywood the Pop-up Globe fuses cutting-edge scaffold technology with 400-year-old designs and superb contemporary performances to create an immersive 360-degree experience unlike any other.
Only 10 tickets are available per Heaven & Hell guided tour. Capacity is limited so we strongly recommend prior booking to avoid disappointment. Please note that any remaining door tickets will be on a first come first served basis and subject to availability.
Please note this tour involves steps, heights and confined spaces. Please wear covered, flat shoes. R13
Access: We regret that due to the nature of the theatre building, including numerous steps and uneven surfaces, wheelchair access is not available for our guided tours. Wheelchair access is available for our performances, by prior booking.
