Ten years of New Zealand’s best music teaching

“In art, the best is the standard. When you hear a new violinist, you do not compare him to the kid next door; you compare him to Sternand Heifetz.” - Ursula K Le Guin

Now celebrating its tenth anniversary, ten years of ongoing success, the Akaroa Music Festival is New Zealand’s premiere residential music school. Every January, an array of distinguished international classical musicians provide ten days of lessons, masterclasses, and concerts against the breathtaking backdrop of one of the world’s most beautiful seaside towns. The festival accepts advanced and enthusiastic young musicians from all over New Zealand and abroad. Classes are open to school students, university students, and adults.

Caroline Almonte has performed as a soloist in Australia and internationally, performing concert ranging from Mozart and Beethoven to Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Bartok, and Ginastera, with conductors Sir John Hopkins, Hiroyuki Iwaki, David Porcelijn, Brian Stacey and Markus Stenz. As a chamber musician, she has worked with many artists including the Fine Arts Quartet, the Flinders Quartet, Pro Arte chamber soloists, Prudence Davis, Alexander Ivashkin, Sue-Ellen Paulsen, Liwei Qin, Elise Milman and the Melbourne Symphony Chamber players.

Ten years old and going from strength to strength, the Akaroa Music Festival is building the future of New Zealand music.
